Sweet potatoes can be used in both savory and sweet applications. They are served as a whole cooked vegetable or pureed, and can be baked, roasted, steamed, boiled, braised, or fried. Sweet potatoes can be thinly sliced and fried for use in casseroles, ratatouille, or lasagna, cubed and simmered in soups, chili, or coconut curry, or sliced and fried, and served with your favorite dipping sauce. The soft, sugary orange varieties are used in bread and cake recipes, or as pie fillings, and pair well with spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, and the sweet flavors of maple syrup or brown sugar.
